We offer both Eastern Armenian interpreting and Western Armenian interpreting.
The Armenian language and culture is a beautiful part of ancient and modern history. Armenia, located between Asia and Europe is a landlocked country, with a population of almost 3 million people. The capital, Yerevan, had grand Soviet-era architecture that marks the capital. Armenia, the first country to adopt Christianity as its national religion, is known as the “land of churches,” due to the many churches and monasteries found throughout all of Armenia. Armenian gained independence from the Soviet Union almost thirty years ago. It is home to the world’s oldest winery, near the village of Areni.
The Armenian Genocide of 1915 killed over 1.5 million Armenians. These events forced many Armenians to flee Armenia, leading to more Armenians living outside of Armenia (over 5.5 million) than in Armenia itself.
Armenians have a unique relationship with history. Armenia is thought to be the home of Noah’s Ark, believed to have landed on Mount Ararat. Although many excursions and expeditions have been conducted to find the ark, it has yet to be found. However, the ark is still symbolized in Armenia’s national coat of arms.
You may have heard about Armenia through celebrities as well. Cher, Serj Tankian, and the Kardashian family are only some of the many celebrities that come from Armenian descent. They have also been vocal about the injustices that occurred over 100 years ago regarding the Armenian genocide.
The Armenian language has a complex history. Many believed that it had similar components to the Iranian language but this would later be disproved by linguists. Although there are, in fact, several similarities to Farsi, the Armenian language is similar to Greek, Persian, and Syriac languages.
