Spain Interpreters and Translators

Spain officially called the Kingdom of Spain, is located in Southwestern Europe. The territory of Spain also includes two archipelagoes: the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa, and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. A number of small islands in the Alboran Sea are also a part of Spanish territory. Uniquely, Spain shares borders with an African country (Morocco), the only European country to do so. The mainland is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, a small land boundary with Gibraltar, as well as France, Andorra, the Bay of Biscay, Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. Spain is the largest country in Southern Europe and the fourth-largest country on the European continent. The country has a population of nearly 50 million, making it the fourth-most populous country in the European Union.

Spain came under Roman rule around 200 BCE. At the end of this rule, Germanic tribes from Central Europe invaded the region, and ruled until the early 8th century, when Islamic power rose, arriving all the way from Baghdad. A very few small regions in the north remained autonomous and under Christian rule. Over the next seven centuries, this Christian rule slowly moved southward, invading and conquering until 1492, with the seizure of the very last Muslim outpost.

What Languages Are Spoken In Spain?

In ancient times Spain ruled one of the largest empires in history. This empire was also one of the first global empires, which spawned an incredible cultural and linguistic legacy. To this point, Spanish is the world’s second-most spoken native language, after Mandarin Chinese. However, there is another language spoken in Spain: Catalan. How did Spain come to have two languages? As early as the late tenth century, the region in the northeast of Spain, Catalonia, was becoming increasingly independent. In 1137, with the royal marriage of the king of Barcelona and the queen of Catalonia, the Catalan region adopted the Principality of Catalonia, developing its own system of courts and constitutions.

After the Spanish Civil War, leaders forbid the use of the Catalan language and abolished the Catalan government.

How Can A U.S. Citizen Enter Spain For Work Or Tourism?

A U.S. citizen can enter Spain without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism purposes. This means all you need for a trip to Spain is your passport and a plane ticket (practice your Spanish and Catalan on the way)!
